Landscape Architecture

Landscape Architecture

Students pursuing the bachelor of environmental design degree at the University of Minnesota study a broad range of biological, physical, and social sciences and liberal arts in the context of design. Courses introduce students to the history, theory, and practice of environmental design at various geographic scales and in diverse settings. Design experiences are supplemented by courses in graphic representation and landscape technology. Students can choose between two concentrations: landscape design or landscape planning.

The B.E.D. is a pre-professional degree that serves as an excellent foundation to prepare for the master of landscape architecture (M.L.A.), which is the degree required to become a licensed landscape architect.

The Department of Landscape Architecture also offers the master of landscape architecture (M.L.A.) as well as the master of science (M.S.) for students interested in research in landscape architecture.
