Freshmen Orientation

Welcome Class of 2012!

May 1, 2008: Enrollment confirmation fee due

In order for us to invite you to orientation in June 2008 you need to first pay your confirmation fee. You will receive a letter from central admissions telling you how to do this, but if not, go to the Admissions Web site for more information.

June 2008: Freshman Orientation

Fall 2008 orientation invitations will start coming in the mail in mid April. Please block out the second through fourth weeks in June for orientation (make-up orientation is in August.) This great two-day event is hosted by Orientation and First Year Programs (OFYP) and College of Design staff. Read on for a link to reserve your space at orientation!

Required steps before orientation

  • Read all orientation mailings very thoroughly!
  • Submit the online orientation reservation & advising survey to reserve your space at the orientation dates to which you were assigned (in your orientation invitation.)
  • If you took college classes in high school be sure to have an official transcript sent to the U of M for those courses (it takes 1-2 months for the U of M to process transcripts).
  • Take your placement exam by May 31 (all majors required to take it.)
  • Learn the Registration Tutorial and Course Search Tutorials BEFORE orientation so you are prepared to register AT orientation.
  • Initiate your e-mail account and bring your username and password to orientation so you can register.

Starting August 27: Welcome Week!

Your college experience continues with Welcome Week, starting Wednesday, August 27, 2008. Welcome Week is an on-campus program designed to continue and complement your orientation experience, provide opportunities to enhance your academic and personal success, and prepare you to begin school on the following Tuesday! For more info go to the OFYP Website.
