Criteria: Admission to all College of Design majors is competitive and space is limited. Always have alternate plans in case you don't get admitted to the major of your choice.
The following criteria apply to all CDes majors:
- good academic standing
- minimum 2.80 cumulative GPA is preferred
- grade trends: including competion rate, grades in specific courses, and term GPA patterns
- minimum C- grade in all major-related courses
- completion of all high school preparation requirements
- Quality of application supplement
- Please refer to the architecture degrees for additional admission requirements and details.
Faculty Review: Faculty who review admission applications take into consideration academic record -- including course requirements, major-related course grades and general GPA patterns, as well as the quality of the Transfer Application Supplement statement (and any other statement of special circumstances.) Admission each year depends on the quality of the pool of applicants with GPA being only one factor in the decision.
Meet with an adviser before you apply: Be sure to talk to a CDes prospective student adviser so you understand how long it will take to finish the program if you get admitted (ESPECIALLY the eight semester studio course sequence in the architecture and design majors.) Refer to the Transferring Credit Web page for detailed information on transferring design classes from other schools.
Notification of admission:
- Design, retail: early April (early November for Graphic Design Spring term applicants)
- Housing studies and environmental design: within 4-6 weeks of application submission
- Pre-architecture and architecture: early July
